Making the Cheese Turnovers

The Turnovers are best hot out of the oven. But if you do have leftovers do not throw them out! Store them in the refrigerator. The next day microwave or place in the oven on warm to remove the chill. Look how wonderful and light the filling is – and it is packed with flavor!

Now let’s start making our Cheese Turnovers! We begin with mixing together the filling ingredients. Flour a cutting board and roll the puff pastry to 12” by 12” using a rolling pin. Cut into 9 pieces or the desired size. Fill each piece with about a teaspoon of filling near one of the ends. Using your finger place some water around the dough edge and then fold over the side that does not have the filling. Take a fork to seal all sides of the dough. Repeat with the remaining dough pieces.

Place the Cheese Turnovers on a cookie sheet and shake Dried Chives over them. Bake for 12 to 15-minutes. Check the turnovers early in case they are done. The puff pastry dough can go from golden brown to burnt rather quickly.

Assemble the Turnovers Early

We made these wonderful Cheese Turnovers for a Thanksgiving dinner. A few hours before baking, we made the turnovers storing in the refrigerator. Before placing in the refrigerator, brush some melted butter on them and wrap in plastic wrap. Remove them from the refrigerator, while the oven is preheating, placing on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. They look beautiful and inviting on the plate!
