Happy Halloween!!
Happy Harvest and Halloween to everyone! What a great time for a glass of apple cider, donuts, a slice of pumpkin pie, and a candied apple. And maybe that is a bit too much sugar at one time! But at Halloween, there is no shortage of great foods to eat!
Many people consider the October harvest as a celebration of a bountiful fall season. For me, the Harvest season is a wonderful time of baking pies and transitioning from grilling to bringing out the slow cooker to make stews and hardy soups. Like my Guinness Beef Stew!
When I first met my husband, he would go to Mayer Brothers for cider and donuts. Now, I love going to Mayer Brothers and it is a yearly event for us! Mayer Brothers is a family-owned cider mill started in 1852. The original intention of this mill was to press the apples of local farmers and families into cider. Over time they started to produce their own apple cider (which is excellent) and expanded into selling other homemade goods and products.
My husband loves to carve a pumpkin and place a candle in it for Halloween night. Each year we (well Greg) picks out several large pumpkins that have a nice carving front. They look so nice in front of our house lit with a candle. The children who come around for trick or treats comment on seeing a real carved pumpkin. The painted pumpkin came from a local supermarket. That is my contribution!
Before the kids arrive, Greg puts the pumpkins outside and light the candles. Once it is dark we go outside to admire the glowing pumpkins. We have the movie Halloween on – though the best part is the intro music and pumpkin that takes over the screen. And we never get tired of this movie!
At my place of employment we have the option to dress for Halloween. And yes I do join in except for this year since we will be closing on our new home. The first year I gathered all of my Doctor Who items to be a Whovian. And yes I have a ton of Doctor Who items and am a huge fan! Then came my Star Trek costume – yes I am Trekkie! The decision was made at the last minute with me gathering items throughout the house. Including sacrificing a red shirt. The guys appreciated I came in as a Red Shirt since they are are expendable, and quite often killed, sometimes in great numbers, often security guards. Last year I went as a NASCAR fan and easily had items within the house. It is great fun to see how everyone will come dressed in their favorite costumes.

Some of my favorite aromas are what you get when you light the candle in the carved out pumpkin, and the smell from the oven when you roast the pumpkin seeds. Very nice post!
