Making the Marble Mashed Sweet Potatoes
We start with making our Yukon Gold mashed potatoes a bit denser since it is the foundation of this side dish. My selection includes light cream and sour cream for additional flavor. If they are too thick, add more milk or light cream. Place mashed potatoes in the refrigerator while making the mashed sweet potatoes.
Mashed sweet potatoes are delicious with the addition of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves! We go a little heavier on these spices. You may want to reduce them taking a taste test to determine how much to add. And of course some brown sugar for sweetness.
Now we are ready to assemble our Marble Mashed Sweet Potatoes! Start with adding the white mashed potatoes to a festive baking dish. Add sweet potatoes to the middle of and swirl using a large spoon into the Yukon Gold mashed potatoes. Bake covered, at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Top the dish with toasted pecans before serving.
Another option is to assemble the casserole ahead of time and bake just before serving. Remove from the refrigerator and bring to room temperature before placing in the oven. Or consider heating in the microwave if oven space is a premium.
